Mazamet is a market town located in the south of the Tarn, at the foot of the Montagne Noire and near the Parc Regional du Haut Langedoc. The town of Castres is just 15 minutes away.
It is ideally situated only 45 minutes from Carcassonne Airport and an hour from Toulouse Airport. There is also direct rail link from Toulouse, which runs on a frequent daily basis.
Historically it was a major centre for the wool and leather industry. Locally, you can enjoy, amongst other things, the tranquillity of the town, its markets every Tuesday and Saturday, the Maison des Memoires, and the medieval village of Hautpoul.
Mazamet is a thriving centre for tourism and locally there are activities and facilities to suit all ages. For those seeking a more active lifestyle, there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities such as walking, cycling or fishing in the beautiful countryside around Mazamet.
Further afield, but within easy reach by car, are the historical cities of Toulouse and Albi and, not to be missed, a tour of La Cite at Carcassonne, which dates back to the 12th century. You can also visit – and enjoy -some of the major wine producing regions of the South of France. Mazamet is only an hour or so away from the wonderful beaches of the Mediterranean.
